This Does Nothing

As I was looking for something to eat this weekend I pulled some things from the cupboard, and as I looked at them all I could think was, "there is nothing of value in this. It is literally nutritionally nothing. I would do as well if I salted some cardboard and then ate it I would get just as much nutrition."

Then I thought how I wished that food that was good for you didn't taste like the sweaty asshole of Fat Bastard in the middle of August in Aruba. Like, raw celery. It's usually filled with peanut butter so you don't have to taste the crunchy green plant fingers that just performed a colon exam.

Why is it professional chefs can make food that tastes good? I imagine they do a lot of stuff that makes it no longer good for you. They Paula Deen it up. Pump it full of more fat than Gilbert Grape's mom. Slather it in oil and sugar.

I'm just saying, I wish I ate better, but I dislike too many "good" things and like things that make you fat,

Goals Check In - March Edition

Two months are down, so it's time to check in to see how the goals are doing so far for the year. Some are making really good progress. Others, not so much. But such is the nature of things.

Goal Number One - Read at least 12 books: Thanks to grad classes I already have four book down. So far I have finished Victory in the East: A Military History of the First Crusade, The First Crusade and the Idea of Crusading, De Profectione Ludovici VII in Orientem,  and Lionhearts: Saladin, Richard I, and the Era of the Third Crusade. Of course, I still have some other books that I have to read, at least two for my other class that I'm part way through, and then another two that I should have done by the end of March of early April. So, that puts me at a third of the way through my goal, with another third by the end of April. Once April hits I'll start to add on books that I want to read. I've got two of the Robert Galbraith (JKR) books that I want to read, as well as a book Jasmine wants me to read for a book club type of a thing. I also want to read Potter again. So, this should be no problem.

Goal Number Two - Lose 1.25 pounds per week:  I've plateaued, in part because my activity has been down lately. I've been focusing on reading and less on walking to try and improve some of my class performance. I'm still down weight, I just haven't kept up the loss. So, things to focus on in future.

Goal Number Three - Log my meals and activity every day: So far I have a 100% on this one!  Every day this year I have logged all my meals. Though, I will say the performance of my goals when I log aren't great. Like, I've had a few too many over my calorie goal days.

Goal Number Four - Digitize and organize my photos: I have had no time for this yet. I feel like this is something that won't really be touched until I get to the end of the semester and I'm not reading a couple hundred pages a week.

Goal Number Five - Landscape the backyard: With this one, it's winter so nothing going on for this yet. I probably should figure out some plans for what we want to do, get permits in place, things like that. It's still early though, so I'm not concerned. I am starting to consider my garden, though. So, spring is going to be here sooner than we think.

Goal Number Six -  Create a longterm goals list:  No list yet, but it's still something that I've been thinking about.

Goal Number Seven - Have Seven New Experiences:  Nothing yet, but I've got a few on the list that will be happening. As I mentioned before in June I'll be seeing Hamilton, and in July I'll be attending a conference at the Holocaust Memorial Museum for teachers of the Holocaust. However, there are a few things in the works, possibly for spring break, and then I also have to consider our summer vacation options. So stuff is percolating.

So, there we have it for month two. Some decent progress made, and I'm quite happy with where things are at the moment. Looking for more progress in March.
